Description of the Anthropology Collection

The anthropology collection focuses on the four sub-fields of anthropology: cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology, physical anthropology, and archaeology. Advanced study of topics such as underwater archaeology, Caribbean cultures, Primatology, and Iron Age Europe are represented within the collection. Other subjects of interest include economic and forensic anthropology, folklore, New World prehistoric cultures, Museum Studies, and history of anthropological and archaeological theory and technique. Regions of special interest include Latin America, especially Mexico and Guatemala, as well as the Mediterranean region including the Near East. The purpose of the collection is to support the undergraduate instructional needs and the research requirements of the faculty in most of the major areas of Anthropology. The Anthropology collection supports a number of programs where the literature and scholarship of Anthropology are often relevant such as Sociology, History, Linguistics, Political Science, and Art History.
